Edmonton’s GLBTQ community and friends and supporters are invited out to a series of sports and recreation related activities during the Edmonton Pride Festival.   

 

Come Out and Play Day is an annual collaboration between the organizers of the sports and recreation groups in Edmonton.    On June 13th starting at 10:00 am the Arctic Frontrunners will kick off the day with a run/walk through Edmonton’s scenic river valley.   Everyone from experienced to first time runners are welcome to join in this activity that starts out from the front of the Kinsmen Sports Centre.   Following the run, Pride Tennis and Ultimate Frisbee, takes centre stage at 11:00am with drop in recreational tennis and pick frisbee.  Participants should bring a mat or towel and a willingness to get their chakras flowing with positive energy.   After chilling out with yoga, Free to Be Volleyball and Pride Tennis take to the courts from 12-2:30pm.  Free to Be Volleyball will be hosting players from across Alberta for this drop in day of recreational outdoor grass volleyball and will hosting a free BBQ for players and spectators from 12-2pm.  Pride Tennis will be hosting all levels of players from the beginner to the pros from 12-2:30pm.   The day concludes with Rainbow Slo Pitch and the Edmonton Police Association participating in the annual and always amusing Rainbow Cup that will run from 2:00pm-4:00pm.  All events are open to all levels and free to the public. 9100 Walterdale Hill, next to the outdoor tennis courts.

 

On June 20th, Making Waves will be hosting a Pride at the Pool party at Oliver Outdoor Pool.   Edmonton’s GLBTQ community are invited to gather on the Southside of the deck area with their towels, sunscreen and bathing suits.  Music and mayhem are planned to keep the group entertained from 12-5pm at this pool located in the heart of Edmonton’s gaybourhood.  10315 119St.

 

Each activity is independently organized and coordinated by the dedicated volunteers from Arctic Frontrunners, Samsara Yoga, Free to Be Volleyball, Pride Tennis, Rainbow Slo-Pitch and Making Waves.   Please note that as the events are held outdoors they are all dependent upon weather.
